“…Making your way in the world today
takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go…” **
He wasn’t one for the lime light. Not when his social anxiety was such that the mere idea of his having to make small talk caused him to break a profuse sweat. Considering who he was and what he did for a living, his suffering such social inadequacies made the situation all the more laughably pitiful.
Thing was, he enjoyed talking to people-when it was done on a one to one basis, and there was an exit nearby-just in case. He met interesting men and women constantly through the work he did, but holding a conversation with them was strictly prohibited. He got that. Since he dealt with those undergoing a great amount of stress at the time of their meeting, he doubted that any of them would be able to chat anyway.
Still, he was lonely and he was ready to find that special someone. That’s when the idea of online dating hit him. It didn’t violate work rules, it was a conversation with other people when he wanted, and with none of his anxieties to work around. It was perfect.
And it was. Then she had come along. He’d thought it would be fun to be anonymous, but now no one knew him and he was having second thoughts. Damn her. He was in love and that sucked so bad.
Her last message said that she wanted to meet him. Yeah. Like that would go over well. One glimpse of him and she’d run screaming. Not that he wouldn’t do the same if the roles were reversed. His smart phone buzzed again. It was her.
Just a note from me to you.
Let’s do coffee. I want to meet you!
I miss you and hope to hear from you soon
